Photography, for me, is practicing empathy: the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
In order to have a job well done I not only need to understand who or what I am photographing, but also to know it's history. Once I'm part of that new world, I start seeing it through new lenses, I can relate to it and capture all the emotions that are worth being remembered.
Since I love a good life history, I believe it's only fair from me to tell a bit of mine as well. I was born in Brazil and raised in a small city on the country side of Rio de Janeiro State. When I was approved at PUC-Rio University to study Journalism I moved to the capital. In my attempt to survive on that metropolis I fell in love with learning more about other cultures and documenting them. Evidently, in my pursuit for making sense out of the world I started dating a foreign guy that brought me to his home, United Kingdom, as his husband.
We are now based in London, and here my curiosity over different languages and ways of living grew even stronger. I'm always involved in learning new languages, right now I'm learning Japanese, but already had lots of experience with English, French, Spanish and, of course, Portuguese (my native language).
The challenge of learning and sharing is what ignites my passion for the art of photography. I just can't resist good stories, and I do believe that everybody has one to share.
